Abstrakt
Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest problemom i wyzwaniom w badaniach nad dziejami starożytnego Egiptu, które sprawia niezwykle obszerna oraz różnorodna baza źródłowa. Materiał ten obejmuje przede wszystkim papirusy i ostraca, inskrypcje, źródła literackie, archeologiczne i numizmatyczne. Integracja informacji dostarczanych przez poszczególne kategorie źródeł stanowi główny problem w badaniach nad Egiptem i wymaga interdyscyplinarnego podejścia. Ponadto, teksty z Egiptu zróżnicowane są pod względem językowym, co wiąże się koniecznością czytania i analizowania przed badaczy dokumentów zapisanych w kilku językach m.in. egipskim (który zapisany jest różnymi typami pisma), Grece, koptyjskim, Łacinie i aramejskim. Z drugiej strony, ten unikalny materiał pozwala na dokładne przebadanie niektórych aspektów społecznych i gospodarczych w Egipcie, co często jest utrudnione lub niemożliwe w przypadku innych części świata starożytnego. Niniejszy artykuł ma na celu zaprezentowanie bazy źródłowej ze starożytnego Egiptu, biorąc pod uwagę zarówno problemy jakie sprawia analiza tych źródeł, jak i możliwości, które oferuje. Artykuł skupia się na źródłach datowanych na okres ptolemejski, które związane są z aktywnością personelu świątyń na terenie Egiptu w tym okresie. Powyższe zagadnienia omawiane są w oparciu o rezultaty projektu badawczego finansowanego przez Narodowe Centrum Nauki mającego na celu przebadanie społecznej i gospodarczej kapłanów i pracowników świątyń w okresie ptolemejskim.
