Abstrakt
Oprócz słynnej praefatio (maior), czyli autorskiego wprowadzenia do Ab Urbe condita jako całości, w zachowanej części dzieła Liwiusza można znaleźć też cztery prologi wewnętrzne (tu nazywane praefationes minores). Pojawiają się one na początku księgi II, VI, XXI i XXXI. W niniejszym artykule najpierw krótko przedstawiono funkcję i tematykę prologów, zwłaszcza wewnętrznych, w historiografii grecko-rzymskiej; potem poddano obszerniejszej analizie cztery praefationes minores Liwiusza. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na elementy łączące wewnętrzne prologi z wstępem do całego dzieła – takie jak pojęcia monumentum i memoria, a także metaforyka patrzenia i postrzegania. Zachowany u Pliniusza Starszego (HN praef. 16) fragment z późniejszej księgi Ab Urbe condita niemal na pewno również pochodzi z wewnętrznego prologu; jest prawdopodobne, że w zaginionych księgach Liwiusza (np. w ks. CXXI) znajdowały się kolejne praefationes minores.
